What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a breast enlargement procedure accomplished with silicone or saline breast implants. The implants are inserted under the breast tissue of your chest muscles to increase the size of your breasts. Breast augmentation surgery is not only used to increase your breast size but can be used to correct your breast size after medical conditions, such as breast cancer.
What is Breast Augmentation Commonly Used For?
While each patient has a different reason for getting a breast augmentation, this surgical procedure can help you in several ways. For instance, it can boost your confidence if you aren’t satisfied with the size of your breasts. If one breast is bigger than the other, we can correct it with breast augmentation surgery. This procedure can also benefit you if your breasts have become smaller after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss. We have helped many people in Chicago to feel more confident with breast enlargement surgery.
Breast augmentation serves many purposes, but there are some things it can’t do. For example, it is crucial to note that this is not the same procedure as a breast lift. It cannot correct drooping breasts. However, a breast augmentation can accompany a breast lift procedure to help you reach your goal. It is best to discuss your desired outcome with us during your initial consultation.
Schedule a Consultation
There is a lot we can tell you now, but nothing will beat an in-person consultation with us. This gives you the opportunity to tell us what you want, and we can tell you how we will achieve it. It is during this consultation that you can choose the size and type of implant you prefer. We want you to be 100% satisfied with your results, so we use this session to ensure that happens. We are precise with our measurements and pay careful attention to your unique needs. Once we know more about what you want, we can discuss other procedures that may need to accompany the breast augmentation, such as a breast lift.
We will present different implant samples, so it is best to wear something comfortable to try on the implants. You will be able to see the implants on you, so you can be certain about the one you choose. With our new VECTRA camera system, you can try on the implants virtually and see the outcome on our computer. We will also review your medical history and assess your health to determine the best course of action. You can ask us as many questions as you need to feel comfortable with the procedure.
Type of Breast Implants
As we mentioned, there are different types of breast implants that you can choose from during your initial consultation. There are two types of breast implants:
Silicone Gel Implants
Silicone gel implants mimic the natural texture of your breasts, making them the preferred choice by many. The implants are made from a silicone shell that contains a plastic gel. This implant has been FDA-approved for women over the age of 22 years.
Saline Breast Implants
Much like the silicone gel implant, a saline implant has a silicone shell, but instead of gel, it contains a saltwater solution. They can either be pre-filled or filled during the surgery. These implants are firmer than silicone gel implants and are FDA-approved for women 18 years old or over.
What is Breast Augmentation Surgery Like?
We will be sure to brief you on the steps of the procedure to ensure success. This includes some guidelines to follow before and after the surgery. To achieve your desired results, follow the instructions we provide. It is for your benefit.
During a consultation with us, we will give you a list of things to avoid before your surgery, such as aspirin and smoking cigarettes. We understand that this may be a challenge, but it is a vital part of the desired outcome. Since this is an invasive surgical procedure, you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home from the hospital. They may also need to stay with you for a day or two to assist with some tasks that may be difficult to do.
Breast augmentation surgery is achieved under a general anesthetic. Patients can be relatively mobile within a few hours of the surgery since it is performed on an outpatient basis. It is important to avoid certain strenuous activities, like exercise, or activities that will raise your blood pressure for at least two weeks after your breast augmentation surgery. We will prescribe pain medication before the day of the procedure so you can have them ready. There will be follow-up treatments, but we will provide dates for those in advance.
