The Procedure
Prior to facelift, neck lift & midface/ cheek lift surgery, your Chicago plastic surgeon will have a licensed anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist administer intravenous or general anesthesia. The surgeon will add local anesthesia and then make carefully planned, very fine incisions in front and behind the ears for facelift and neck lift patients. The incision can be extended into the scalp and hairline when needed. For midface / cheek lift surgery, small incisions are planned in the crow’s feet near the eye, in the temple scalp area and occasionally in the mouth to help lift the cheek.
Through the incisions, the surgeon will access the deeper layers of the face, cheeks or neck — the muscles and soft tissues specific to each region of the face, neck and mid-face/ cheek are tightened, “lifted” and secured into place. The surgeon may use additional techniques like liposuction to the neck and jowls, if need be. The goal is to elevate the structures of the face into a more youthful-looking arrangement and adjust the facial volume to look healthy and supple. After the surgeon has made the proper adjustments, the incisions are closed and the head is loosely bandaged to promote proper healing.
Although Midface/ cheek lift surgery does treat the lower eyelid, it should be noted that neither mid-face lift, facelift nor necklift treats the upper eyelids, brows or forehead. Other surgical procedures — such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), browlift and fat transfer — may be performed in conjunction with a midface/cheek lift, facelift, or necklift to balance a revitalized look.
Recovery
Some bruising and swelling is normal and expected after facelift, neck lift or midface/ cheek lift surgery. Pain medication and support garments are provided to relieve discomfort and help the new facial contours settle properly. We advise our Chicago facial rejuvenation surgery patients to take one to two weeks off from work in order to fully heal. During this time, patients should rest and relax as much as possible and avoid strenuous activity or exercise. Although the body takes approximately six weeks to heal, patients can begin incorporating activity back into their routine at the advice of our doctors and staff members. Scheduled visits to the office for dressing changes and suture removal are coordinated into your schedule.
Facelift, Necklift & Midface/ cheeklift Benefits and Risks
Facelift, Necklift & Mid-face/ cheeklift surgery can take years off of a man’s appearance and help them to look as young as they feel inside. It may help a patient feel more confident in the workplace, social situations and everyday life. The results of these surgical procedures are long-lasting (approximately 10 to 15 years) and may last even longer if the patient avoids the sun, alcohol and smoking. Other treatments like injections, laser peel, radio frequency micro needling or InMode’s Facetite & Accutite can, over the years, maintain one’s surgical outcomes and optimize one’s youthful appearance.
As with any surgery, there are risks. Our surgeons at the Chicago Aesthetic Surgery Institute carefully plan the operation with you to balance these surgical risks to the expected benefits of Facelift Necklift & Mid-face/ cheeklift surgery.
Standard surgical risks include recurrence of aging changes, outcomes that require further surgical refinement, bleeding, infection, unfavorable scarring, temporary (or rarely permanent) injury to tissues near the areas of the procedure such as facial nerves , along with anesthesia-related complications.
Careful planning, thorough preparation, excellent training and then years of experience, minimize these standard surgical risks. Equally important is careful coordination with our CASI team for adjunctive treatments- this synergistic, team approach to men’s facial rejuvenation surgery is what we pride ourselves on. Careful balance of surgical procedures with non-surgical treatments minimizes your risks, yet optimize your outcome!
